- FTP Download Problems:
We get quite a few emails from people telling us that they can download files from all other sites, but not ours. This is usually because the files on the other sites are simply being downloaded from HTML links that point to the file residing in a WWW-accessible directory. COMBATSIM.COM, on the other hand, does not store files in WWW-accessible directories but on a true FTP server. If you are trying without success to download a file from the ftp.combatsim.com servers we find that 99.99% of the time the problem is because your computer is behind a firewall.
Downloadable files on true FTP servers are not treated the same as files sitting in a WWW-accessible directory. True FTP servers must open a port on the requesting machine in order to send the file. Most Sys Admins set their firewalls to disallow any external server from opening a port on the requesting machine behind the firewall as a security measure.
The solution is to try downloading the file from a computer that is not behind a firewall. If even that doesn't work, then you can send us the details to our Customer Service email. Please provide the filename and page URL in your email. |
