With the slow death of Usenet groups, where will gamers turn for the latest in gaming news and views?

In his July 31, 2008 PC Mag column (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2326848,00.asp), Sascha Sagan lamented the death of Usenet. He ascribes the death to porn, more glamorous venues such as MySpace and over-use by the Great Unwashed that ruined the party for early Geeks. Although the obit is premature, the vital signs of Usenet are weakening, leaving one to wonder where gamers get their information about gaming overall on the web other than the front pages of websites. Three broad genres strike me: Usenet groups, game company forums and independent website forums. Each of these places has their treasures and booby traps. A quick guide can help newcomers to our hobby and, perhaps, focus some things for old-timers.
