The few, the proud, the slightly improved.

Though I am still a fan of and even occasionally replay games from the original 'Combat Mission' trilogy, I confess that I haven't spent more time with 'Combat Mission: Shock Force' than was required to review it. While I liked the modern setting and the ultra realistic combat resolution, the game suffered from poor performance, passive AI and an awkward interface. So I played as much of it as needed for the review, and then never touched it again.
Now, a little over a year later, the team at Battlefront have released their Marines module. Combat Mission Shock Force: Marines. Incorporating a number of fixes to the core game and a whole new batch of leatherneck content, Marines strengthens the 'CMSF' experience in some fascinating new ways. Nevertheless, it still manages to present some substantial obstacles to enjoyment, even for the most ardent 'Combat Mission' fans.
