EA just can't seem to get this whole "videogame" thing right the first time.

The first, and greatly anticipated patch for EA Games first person shooter Battlefield 2 has been wreaking havoc throughout any digital battleground running the latest version, v1.01. Though soothing some flaming gamers on the client side of things, server admins who were quick to apply the patch are finding that they're server machines' memory is going bye-bye. Windows based servers are falling victim to irreconcible memory leaks that have been reported as high as 500 MB after running a server for 2-3 hours. And what does 500 MB of memory that effectively disappears from your OS mean? Plenty of crashing. On the other side of the OS fence, Linux admins seem to largely be escaping the fray: Although some issues with this memory leak are reported by Linuxphiles, massive crashing issues have largely been contained to the Windows variety of BF2 servers.
