We recently learned of a new project from Timo Hannukkala, the creator of Westfalen, entitled War of Enlightenment. Like Westfalen before it, War of Enlightenment is focused on a multiplayer experience in a turn-based, grand strategy game. The new game is set during the 18th and 19th centuries, as new empires sprung up during the Industrial Age; Austria, Brandenburg, Denmark, England, France, Ottoman empire, Papal states, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Transylvania are among the nations represented.
In many ways, the game is an update to Westfalen, so it runs almost identically. Players can download and play the single player demo for free, but there is a cost of 30 Euros to purchase the full single player version. However, the multiplayer is where the action is: players can join up with 19 others to engage in one massive struggle for power. The turn-based game is flexible enough to provide for short turns, and complex enough to support games which extend for weeks at a time.
