It's like a grittier, more action-packed version of Sid Meier's Pirates!, set during the US Civil War.

Though best known for its PC strategy and role-playing games, Moscow-based developer Akella will soon be hitting the PlayStation 2 with Swashbucklers: Blue vs. Grey, an action role-playing game set during the Civil War. In the game, players will assume the role of the burly Abraham Gray, a ship captain trying to make ends meet during a tumultuous time in America's history. He'll get to sail between the Northern Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico in search of riches, alliances, and adventure in a game that's clearly inspired by the recent Sid Meier's Pirates!. However, while Pirates! presents a rather lighthearted look at the privateer occupation, Swashbucklers packs in some bloody, no-holds-barred sword fights and gun battles. We got a chance to see the hand-to-hand and ship-to-ship combat as well as some of the other elements of play in the work-in-progress build shown at E3.
