Homefront is a game filled with ideas, from its emphasis on humanity during non-combat sequences, to its heavy use of scripting to give shootouts a sense of drama. At a recent preview event in New York I spoke with Chris Cross, lead designer from Kaos Studios, about how they're tried to translate these ambitious ideas into gameplay systems in a genre that's quickly become gaming's version of the tentpole release. Can a game about war still have a heart? If so, how?
