Come face-to-face with the future of terror.

Metro 2033 begins with a sneak peek at the game's climax, as a desperate band of soldiers makes a last-ditch attempt to reach their final objective, Moscow's iconic Ostankino Tower. This night-time raid is like a pig-shooting vacation to hell. At first you can only make out mounds of rubble and dead branches in the dark. The exquisite lighting engine makes this spooky enough, but soon a stampeding horde comes into view... the Dark Ones. Swarming past by the hundred, at first these giant rat-creatures are oblivious to your rag-tag band, and they storm right on by, flicking in and out of the range of your floodlights.
Then one stops and turns to look at you, and you notice for the first time that they've got human faces. Even to eyes desensitised by the blobby limb-monsters of Dead Space, this is genuinely creepy. At this point the horde changes course, closing in from all sides. You can hold them off for a few agonising seconds, but soon you're overrun. The screen goes black, save for an ominous caption: "Eight days earlier..."
