I can see the advertising campaign for this concept remote already… "The Phallic One by Panasonic, always ready when you need it." You can’t make this stuff up. 
"Left undisturbed, the remote will go limp and slumber peacefully. But should a human hand approach, sensors inside alert it to the imminent touch. It stops breathing, grows rigid – the light from within is extinguished."
