These recent years we have seen a slow but steady buildup of VR from both technological developments to growing enthusiasm shown by consumers and the industry. Today AMD is releasing the Radeon Pro Duo to the market as their first card targeted at VR developers. This card is not being directly aimed at gamers, despite the capability under the hood, but focuses on official support for professional software. Additionally, multiple initiatives are being both spearheaded and supported by AMD and others to encourage growth in the VR sector.

NVIDIA released today its latest “Hotfix” GeForce drivers that add optimization for an unannounced game and a minor GeForce Experience-related bug. To begin with, GeForce 364.96 Hotfix driver comes with optimization (read: “support”) for DOOM: Open Beta. Don’t expect SLI support on this game’s OpenGL-based engine, though. The drivers also address a bug with GeForce Experience that caused it to not open correctly without an active Internet connection.

AMD released its latest version of the Radeon Software Crimson Edition drivers. Version 16.4.1 comes with optimization for “Quantum Break,” with up to 35 percent higher performance seen a machine running the Radeon R9 Fury X, compared to the previous 16.3.2 drivers. It also provides software support for the two hottest VR headsets – Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The drivers also address a bug seen on “Hitman” (2016), which cases the game to flicker when shadow quality is bumped up to “high,” in DirectX 11 mode. Most importantly, the drivers fix a frame-rate capping issues noticed on some DirectX 12 applications.

NVIDIA over the weekend, released the GeForce 364.51 WHQL drivers. These drivers address a critical bug in the company’s previous WHQL-signed GeForce 364.47 WHQL driver, which causes the installer to crash the system with a BSOD/TDR error during “express” install. The bug was so severe, that it forced NVIDIA to pull the driver off its website. The rest of this driver’s feature-set appears to be consistent with that of the 364.47 WHQL.

NVIDIA today pulled its latest GeForce 364.47 WHQL drivers for shipping with a critical bug in its installers that causes Windows to crash. Users swarmed to the company’s official GeForce Forums to report the bug to NVIDIA. Among the problems included a crash each time the machine wakes up from Sleep mode. A company rep responded that NVIDIA was able to internally reproduce the issue, and was working on a solution.

NVIDIA has meanwhile pulled 364.47 WHQL from its website, and is recommending users to either clean-install an older version of the driver, such as the 362.00 WHQL, or upgrade to the newer 364.51 Beta Drivers. Version 364.51 Beta can be downloaded from here. The rest of its feature-set appears to be identical to the 364.47 WHQL.
