We review the ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer motherboard, this high-end X99 motherboard from ASrock has lovely features yet remains priced competitively in the 225 EURO / 279 USD margin. It has good tweaking options and allows up-to 3-way multi-GPU gaming in Crossfire or SLI. Features are nice, like the ten SATA 6 Gbps ports, the two Gigabit NIC jacks and the 7.1 channel HD audio as delivered by the high-end Realtek ALC1150 codec covered by an EMI shield, of course.

The X99-PRO seems to combine most of the X99-Deluxe’s features and overclocking potential into a package that’s more affordable. However, that lower price does hide several areas that have been cut back. So at first glance this motherboard looks to be every bit as promising as the Deluxe, but while it looks great on paper we are going to find out if the X99-PRO can actually meet our lofty expectations.

When we ask the motherboard manufacturers about overclocking, most of them say that it is an integral part of their hardware line-up as well as a point to distinguish themselves from the competition. I have been a big fan of the cheaper overclocking oriented models in the mainstream markets, and in order to emulate the success that GIGABYTE has made in that area today they are releasing the X99-SOC Champion aimed at the Haswell-E overclocking crowd. We managed to get a sample in for a launch day review.

There are many ways to do something different in the motherboard space, especially with respect to functionality and design. In terms of the design element, we have seen many motherboards recently go for a black and red theme, but in the past we had yellow, pink, and all sorts of interesting combinations. Upon popular request, ASUS is releasing the ASUS Z97 Mark S, an arctic camouflage special edition version of the TUF Z97 Sabertooth Mark 1. We were lucky to get motherboard number #0001 for review.

GIGABYTE’s new Haswell-E X99-UD4 motherboard offers a no-nonsense, no frills approach to the High End DeskTop (HEDT) market segment. While this certainly is an HEDT motherboard, GIGABYTE’s approach to the feature set available on this motherboard has kept its price point in the $240 range.

The OC Formula comes with not one but two M.2. slots, wide tweaking options and a pretty interesting design. ASRock is quietly confident of its OC Formula range. We awarded the Z77 version because of its aggressive tactics at the $240 price point and while the Z87 model offered even more but at $330 it missed that sub-$250 market which cheaper overclocking builds are built on. The Z97 OC Formula ditches the Lamborghini on the box and comes back down to earth at $210, although the feature set becomes lighter as a result. The mainstream overclocking motherboard market is always hot at $200, so today we are putting the Z97 OC Formula through its paces.
