Insurgency: Sandstorm

insurgency-sandstormThe Frontline Update is now available for Insurgency: Sandstorm, the smash-hit indie FPS from New World Interactive, bringing a host of new features dedicated to streamlining matchmaking and offering fresh content on a weekly basis. The two defining features of this update are Frontline, an intense tug-of-war style PvP mode, and Hillside, a reimagining of the classic Insurgency map ‘Sinjar’.

In the new PvP mode, Frontline, teams must capture all enemy objectives one by one, before destroying the final weapon cache objective to win, whilst at the same time protecting their own objectives. Each match becomes a large-scale, simultaneous attack-and-defend battle, with fire support, vehicles, and teams battling it out for objectives that award respawns for their team.

Hillside is the latest map, a reimagining of the classic Insurgency: Source and Insurgency mod map ‘Sinjar’, this time taking place in a new snow environment. The wide, open spaces for attackers and high elevation positions for defenders is a callback to the classic storm-the-beach D-Day FPS experience of old. Hillside is joined by two Galil LMG-variant assault rifles, a new 3x scope for the QBZ-03, and a batch of winter cosmetics for both Insurgents and Security factions. All this content and much more is playable across all maps and game modes!

The new map and game mode arrive with numerous bug fixes and quality of life changes, including a complete overhaul of the Play menu and official matchmaking, and the introduction of limited time weekly playlists featuring “mutated” game modes with tweaked gameplay with everything from bolt-action rifles only to health stealing. insurgency-sandstormNew World Interactive and Focus Home Interactive are delighted to announce six more months of free content for Insurgency: Sandstorm on PC, outlined in today’s roadmap. Much of this content is possible thanks to the fantastic community support, with much of what’s planned coming directly from player feedback and multiple surveys.

Starting July this year, the six months of free content includes the following major additions (order of release is TBD):

  • Level editor and tools – mod support is coming!
  • Two new maps – includes a snow map and another yet to be revealed
  • Night versions of maps – this includes the release of special nighttime equipment
  • New weapons and equipment – toggleable optics, mini-shotgun attachments and more are planned, along with others based on post-launch community surveys
  • Hardcore ruleset across all modes – the option for hardcore rulesets will be made available to every game mode
  • PvP Frontline & Co-op Outpost game modes – these two new game modes were chosen in Sandstorm’s first community survey. Frontline features two teams in a tug-of-war over multiple objectives to reach and destroy their enemy’s weapon cache. Outpost allows players to go on the defensive at randomized locations against waves of enemy AI.
  • New character customization – many more cosmetics will be added, for both Insurgent and Security teams.

insurgency-sandstormUpdate brings arcade mode, five new guns, and celebrates 500,000 players

Insurgency: Sandstorm, the smash-hit indie FPS from New World Interactive, receives its first major content update today. This includes the massive addition of a new ‘Arcade’ playlist with rotating game modes, alongside five new weapons, a new firing range for practicing your aim, performance improvements, and a wealth of smaller changes, additions, tweaks, and bug fixes – all featured in the First Content Update Trailer.

We’re also thrilled to announce that over 500,000 copies of Insurgency: Sandstorm have now been sold, already making back the budget of development, marketing, and then some. In celebration, we invite those who haven’t yet picked up a copy to get involved with a first major discount of 20% off on Steam, available until March 5.

The Arcade experience that ships with this new update lays the foundation for adding fresh, new, non-traditional game modes into Insurgency: Sandstorm. Things are beginning with a classic Team Deathmatch mode, which removes faction restrictions on weapons and upgrades, and gives more supply points to make your selections. Rules are simple: Build your ideal loadout, and kill enough of the enemy to win the match. New modes will be introduced to Arcade regularly with future updates.

To add some spice to this new kill-focused mode, five new weapons are also being added to Sandstorm in this update. Two new variations of the MP5, the MP5A2 and the MP5A5, are low caliber weapons with good recoil control, perfect for close quarters combat. There are also a pair of new machine guns, the M240B and MG3, offering high-caliber damage and an absurd rate of fire respectively. Finally a new Security handgun, the PF940, features 9mm rounds and a massive high capacity magazine upgrade of 31 rounds.

These new weapons join a rework of flash grenades to be more effective, alongside new cosmetic additions of eyewear, tattoos, a new camouflage pattern, and more. Performance and quality of life improvements, plus bug fixes, are also a major part of the patch. Read all about them over in the community update post on Steam.

New World Interactive and Focus Home Interactive are delighted with the response and reception to Insurgency: Sandstorm so far. This update should be seen as a sign of things to come: major, regular, free updates with new content and gameplay improvements. To join in, we invite you to grab the game at the 20% discount on Steam, available until March 5th.

insurgency-sandstormEvolving the original Insurgency formula, the multi-million selling FPS comes enhanced and expanded. Insurgency: Sandstorm is built in Unreal Engine 4 with upgraded graphics, taking the series into a new era. Coming to PC and, for the first time, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; Insurgency: Sandstorm brings extended gameplay possibilities, improved immersion, as well as new co-op and versus objective-based game modes. All this while retaining the lethal tactical action that made Insurgency the worldwide phenomenon it is today. Six new screenshots are available direct from the ongoing Closed Alpha.

Experience kinetic, gritty, and immersive combat on a modern battlefield that strikes a balance between action and simulation gameplay. Both you and your enemies can die in as few as one or two shots; there is no health bar, kill feed, crosshair, or regenerating health. Teams must move with speed and fluidity as they weave through dense urban environments, capturing and destroying vital enemy objectives.

Each weapon has unique ballistic calculations that take into account bullet drop, travel time, and penetration power. Bullets are tracked realistically in each magazine container, and magazines do not automatically merge together. Choose to drop magazines for faster reloads in dangerous situations, carefully open doors to keep quiet, or bash them down with a shoulder charge. Returning players will experience new features like fire support mechanics, driveable light vehicles, character customization, weapon customization, and competitive matchmaking.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is coming out later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

A new trailer from Insurgency: Sandstorm shows more of the modern combat in this upcoming military first-person shooter. No need to pop any corn for this, as the clip is a pretty short 42 seconds, and half of it is logos. Here’s word on what we’re seeing here:

See a new Fire Support option in action: an explosive autocannon gun run. Fire support can be called when two special player classes, the Commander and Observer, are in close proximity to each other. The Commander first gives the order for the type of Fire Support he wants, then the Observer uses his radio to make the request.”
