Wargaming announces details about a big October update coming to World of Warships, their free-to-play naval combat MMOG. This will introduce their Halloween event, which will feature the addition of the spookiest of all warships, submarines, though they say when the celebration kicks off is still TBA. In further future teasing, they also say another update before the end of the year will overhaul aircraft carriers “to add a whole new level of gameplay depth.” This trailer offers a work-in-progress look at some subs in action, and here are more details:

First off, as part of the annual and always anticipated Halloween in-game event, Wargaming is adding a spooky new addition that’s sure to change up gameplay in exciting ways – submarines! Subs add a whole new dimension to the game – literally! Now you have the whole undersea to prowl, as the Halloween event will see the addition of new sinister submarines. Once the event is over, Wargaming will take a look at the effect that adding this new element has on the game, and evaluate how best to completely integrate submarines into World of Warships – permanently! If all goes according to plan, players can expect more subs across multiple nationality tech-trees in 2019!

Wargaming is aiming for the end of this year to incorporate a new update that will see a rebalancing of aircraft carriers and a reworking of how they play in-game. Carriers will become more action-oriented, as one of the most significant changes includes direct aircraft squadron control, allowing for much more freedom – and the addition of three types of available squadrons (torpedo bombers, dive bombers, and attack planes). Along with those two key changes, players will have the ability to call fighter squadrons to patrol the current player location and engage enemy planes.

Sail the seas with the most famous battleships of France in World of Warships

Vive la France! Everyone knows France for its baguette and red wine, but also for its diversified and beautiful landscape and cities. Normandy, Bretagne, Alsace or the town of Lyon are famous all around the world.

World of Warships gives you a unique opportunity to re-visit what France produced as the most spectacular, powerful, breathtaking innovations in the naval engineering field. The French Battleships are now joining the game with Normandie, Bretagne, Alsace or Lyon, as well as Richelieu and Republique. Not only are these battleships among the most beautiful ever created and will enlighten your visual experience of the game, but if you think warships are slow or lack action, then you will revise your judgement. Take Normandie, (a tier VI warship) all the main battery turrets have 4 guns, with Lyon (tier VII) holding the absolute record in her 4×4 configuration. 16 canons ready to unleash their wrath on their opponents. And they are the fastest ships of their class.

Each ship has been meticulously recreated from blueprints after weeks of research. The developers spent many hours in the archives provided by Service historique de la Défense (Vincennes, Châtellerault) and Musee National de la Marine (Paris) to get access to photos and blueprints.

Sergey Gornostaev Senior Museums and Militaria Relations Specialist said, “we already knew from the history of French armaments and military vehicles that French war machines were quite unique in design. It was awesome to find that the French military love their heritage and are proud of it. We found special sets of references already prepared for scale modelers – this was a first for us in any archives we visited!”

Each model needed several months of works to be recreated. Et Voilà!

Everyone can now enjoy the best of France from his PC and understand why France was one of the most dangerous naval nation in the world.

worldofwarships-logoOne year ago, commanders banded together to banish terror from the high seas when the sinister Rasputin and its Zikasa hordes attempted to take over World of Warships. While brave captains sent these terrors back whence they came, little did the community know that, all this time, Rasputin had been plotting his return… To save the day this Halloween, players must fight the war for the living.

From Update 0.6.12.1, where there is darkness, there can also be light. And the second mission, Sunray in the Darkness, sees Transylvania return for another tour. Commanders once again head back to the Silver Spear Archipelago, sinking the forces of darkness in four brand-new Halloween ships. Watch the World of Warships – Halloween: A Sunray in the Darkness Trailer HERE.

Destroyer Urashima with commander Mina Hurray, cruiser Svyatozar with commander Ivan K. Ulibin, battleship Magnu-S with commander Klaus V. Teslau, and aircraft carrier Nobilium with commander Lazarus Centurio will be there to aid players in their fight. Each new vessel in your Port is also equipped with a unique consumable that does not only affect you but the enemy, too. Take them for a ride and see which one is best at destroying hordes of enemy vessels.

This time, guard towers will be lending their help as you attempt to protect them and ensure the portal to the other side is sealed once and for all—while enemy forces pour out and a sinister, debilitating fog slowly spreads across the waters. While this fog reduces a ship’s HP, spotting and detectability, it heals enemy ships, meaning players must sink their foes on the double. The task at hand is to save the towers, defeat Rasputin and a new threat, the Gorgon, and eliminate all enemies to save Transylvania.

For successfully pulling off your mission and completing special objectives, commanders receive a certain number of stars which, along with generating a rank, unlock awesome rewards. With special Halloween camo, tons of Free XP, Premium Account time, and loads of other treats up for grabs, players would have to be seriously spooked to miss out on this ghastly event.

Players can dive into in-game events throughout September

World of Warships is celebrating its second anniversary! Over the past couple of years, the game has gone from strength to strength with the help of its passionate community. Just two years ago, World of Warships launched with 10 maps and 90 ships from Japan and the US. Now, players can take to the seas with 228 ships across 10 nations and a massive 30 battle arenas.

World of Warships didn’t just introduce more vehicles and battlefields—the game significantly stepped up its graphics, added weather effects like fearsome storms, as well as added PvE missions and clan functionality.

I’m really excited about the sheer amount of work the team has done over two years,” said Arthur Plociennik, World of Warships Executive Producer. “We’ve stepped up our game by cooperating with our players and channeling their feedback to improve and evolve their experience. So far, we delivered many updates and have big plans of moving further.

In celebration of the game and its community, World of Warships will launch several fantastic in-game festivities that will run throughout September.

wargaming-remember-dunkirkHistoric in-game events and missions roll out with Christopher Nolan’s epic drama, DUNKIRK

In conjunction with Warner Bros. and alongside the WWII action thriller DUNKIRK, Wargaming is kicking off the commemoration with a series of history-based activities and bundles. The “Remember Dunkirk” content will be available in all three of the Wargaming “Battle Trilogy” of video games beginning July 14th. The robust program encompasses World of Tanks (PC & Console), World of Warships, and World of Warplanes.

The historic ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’, like many of the events of World War II, continues to impact and inform our battle-focused games,” stated Erik Whiteford, Head of Marketing, Wargaming America, “We are inspired by this momentous military operation and are excited to be in a partnership with Warner Brothers for Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated action thriller DUNKIRK.

Wargaming’s “Remember Dunkirk” activity debuts this Friday, July 14th. A full series of “Remember Dunkirk” themed missions will take over the tank battlefields of World of Tanks and combat-filled skies of World of Warplanes. Players can compete to earn “Remember Dunkirk” themed vehicles and accumulate experience points (XP) that are redeemable for in-game gear, including special camouflage and more.

The battles expand in the coming weeks, as the “Remember Dunkirk” missions embark onto the high seas in World of Warships. A series of challenging missions will give warship commanders the opportunity to earn Dunkirk-themed containers and flags, as well as a Dunkirk themed ship Commander!

Prey on carriers and show pesky destroyers who’s boss

Vive la France! A full fleet of ten stylish-looking cruisers sails proudly into World of Warships today, introducing a new nation with rich naval history to the game.

French cruisers offer numerous tactical options and have tremendous potential to set the tone in combat thanks to outstanding fighting qualities and exclusive consumables,” said Artur Plociennik, World of Warships Executive Producer. “You can swiftly change your position, shine in short-range torpedo exchanges, and turn the table on destroyers. With French cruisers, you’re the hunter.

The new line possesses powerful artillery and features several specific traits for commanders who appreciate maneuverability and tactical versatility. Their high speed is complemented by the special Engine Boost consumable, unavailable to other nations’ warships of the same class. French cruisers have very high anti-torpedo bulkheads, giving them significant advantage against destroyers, and their own torpedo launchers provide the nation with an edge in close combat. They can accomplish a variety of battle objectives, switching flanks rapidly and preying on destroyers, light cruisers, and aircraft carriers, while those belonging to Tiers VI to X can even give some trouble to battleships.

The new branch opens with the speedy and accurate Bougainville that belongs to aviso, a sub-type of cruisers previously not represented in World of Warships. Bougainville-class ships performed well in World War II and remained on active duty until the late 1950s, having participated in wars in Korea and Indochina. Among other significant models are the Émile Bertin—one of the fastest cruisers in the game—along with its descendant, the well-armored and torpedo-proof La Galissonnière.

Grand battles await. En avant, les capitaines!

Discover the renowned British cruiser in mixed reality VR, then put her to the test in-game

World of Warships fans and historical enthusiasts alike can jump into the HMS Belfast VR Experience, then set sail with the historic British cruiser in-game.

HMS Belfast, the largest preserved warship in Europe, played an important role in the Battle of the North Cape in 1943, assisting in the destruction of one of the last big-gun German warships: Scharnhorst. At the time, HMS Belfast was the most advanced light cruiser in the world, and she will soon arrive in World of Warships as a Tier VII Premium ship, as part of the Royal Navy line.

With the help of World of Warships historians Richard “The Challenger” Cutland and Nicholas “The Chieftain” Moran, you can discover just what HMS Belfast is made of in the new 360-degree video, which teleports you to the real ship on the River Thames in London, mixing in battle visualizations using the highly detailed 3D ship models from World of Warships.

“HMS Belfast is a famed vessel that inspired us to create an unprecedented VR experience that deepens the historical connection to the World of Warships in-game experience,” said Alex Bobko, Head of Marketing Special Projects at Wargaming. “We just couldn’t pass up such deep access to this noteworthy ship. Visiting her in London allowed us develop groundbreaking content for our viewers, inviting them to jump into a mixed reality VR experience on the real ship, and then get hands-on experience with her in-game.”

Wargaming would like to thank the Imperial War Museum for the opportunity to create the VR experience inside HMS Belfast, and discover what life was like at sea for the crew from 1938 to 1963.

The HMS Belfast VR Experience is viewable for free on any Virtual Reality headset, as well as any mobile or desktop device.
