World of Tanks

An all-new battle arena hits the game’s test server bringing bigger maps, larger teams, and intense action

Wargaming has revealed its partnership with Austrian developer Bongfish, who brought over a decade of experience working with well-known publishers to bear on a new game mode for World of Tanks, dubbed Frontline. From today, players can put the new mode through its paces in the World of Tanks test server, Sandbox.

What can players expect from Frontline? Epic 30v30 tank clashes across vast 9 km2 battlefields, with one team pushing the assault while the other defends their territory. Over several rounds, the action spreads deeper behind defensive lines until a winner is declared.

Players have been asking us for larger teams, bigger maps, and new combat setups for some time,” said Milos Jerabek, World of Tanks Development Director. “Wargaming’s distributed development approach made this a reality and we partnered with Bongfish to create the new mode—all while the in-house team for World of Tanks works on the game’s key mechanics. Bongfish has a ton of expertise to make it happen under our guidance. There’s true chemistry between the both of us, and we look forward to revealing what this collaboration brings to players.

We’ve been working on Frontline for a while now, and are excited to finally show it to the world,” said Michael Putz, Bongfish Founder and CEO. “We’re passionate about authentic gameplay and vast open spaces, and so are World of Tanks developers. By working with them, we can channel this passion to create something one of a kind for tankers to enjoy.

Sandbox has been an integral component in improving the game as well as fostering a conversation between the players. Frontline marks the third time the game tests the waters in Sandbox to ensure World of Tanks continues going from strength to strength.

World of Tanks and Dolph Lundgren put manliness back on track in their latest ad

Once, long ago, the world knew what manliness was—lifting weights, chopping wood, tuning up your muscle car, not looking another man in the eye when you’re both answering the call of nature. But somehow along the way, the lines blurred. Ciabattas? Frappuccinos? Skinny jeans? Has manliness lost its cool?

Now it’s up to World of Tanks and Dolph Lundgren to get manliness back on track.

In the latest advert from Wargaming, we embark on a journey with Dolph to discover how to choose a real man’s hobby in the hectic world of today. It’s a tough mission, requiring a man who is not afraid to put his mind, body, and soul on the line to stay, what the Vikings (probably) call, skǫruligr (manly).

Update 9.16 marks the debut of a Swedish Premium tank, the new Paris map, and player-requested improvements

ABBA, Ingrid Bergman, Bjorn Borg, the Strv m/42-57 Alt A.2—things Sweden is known for, right? Well, maybe not that vehicle, but World of Tanks is planning to change that. The game is opening up its ranks, welcoming the first Swedish tank to the game in its latest update, with 19 more on their way later in the year. This Tier VI vehicle is the first Premium medium tank of this tier with a drum-type autoloader and is equipped with the well-known turret from the French AMX-13 light tank series.

“We already announced the new vehicle branch for further updates, and we’re happy to introduce the first Swedish tank,” said Thaine Lyman, World of Tanks Product Director. “It features pretty good mobility and an oscillating turret with an autoloader, and it is well-suited for levelling up your first Swedish crew and earning some extra credits.”

Along with the first Swedish vehicle, the Paris map is saying bonjour to Random Battles. It recreates many destinations from the romantic capital of the world, sending any tanker’s heart all aflutter. Landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Seine River bank, Théâtre national de Chaillot and districts of Haussmannian buildings can all be found as you explore. Every vehicle type is set to find some intense battles, wherever they decide to strike from.

Update 9.16 also brings improvements to the sound system. You’ll find that the range of sounds for high calibers was extended and sound indication for damage received was also enhanced. So, now it’s even clearer to assess how serious the damage sustained by your tank is.

The in-game minimaps have also been updated based on player feedback, with 30 more rolling out with higher visual quality so you have a crystal clear idea of your surroundings. In addition, the in-game interface also features a range of improvements, including popular mods that will make your time on the battlefield and in the Garage much more enjoyable.

We’re always looking out for player feedback, so don’t hesitate to tell us what you think in order to make the game better.

The newest update introduces long-awaited changes to tanks, UI and UX elements

Wargaming is excited to bring a pack of community-requested changes to World of Tanks with Update 9.15, which will be released May 25 for Europe and North America, and May 30–31 in Asia and Korea. Coming to the game in this update are balance tweaks to tanks, as well as changes to UI and UX elements and further physics and sound improvements—all of which have been implemented off feedback the dev team has received from players.

Evolution in World of Tanks is a gradual process, but thanks to players, the dev team addressed elements that truly take their experience up a gear. A number of popular mods have been added to the client to make it more user friendly. Now it’s possible to extend Garage filters, view several previously hidden vehicle characteristics, which will change in real-time when certain upgrades are used, and more, in a safe and easy way.

“Work on Update 9.15 started with having a conversation with the players,” said Anton Pankov, World of Tanks Global Publishing Producer. “We connected with them on social media, our forums, during player gatherings; spoke to opinion leaders in the community and trialed changes on test servers to set our priorities. It’s invaluable, and from this we’re able to further polish features and mechanics.”

“In the future, we’ll be addressing more player requests, and introducing the sandbox: the first step in one of the biggest changes in World of Tanks history. We’ll be rebalancing every single tank in the game—a truly massive task. Feedback matters more than ever. We’ll be in close communication with the community every step of the way because it’s only by working together that we can make World of Tanks the best experience possible.”

The improved physics and sound, which were introduced last update, are still being enhanced. Now you’ll find the chance of your tank toppling over has been decreased, the damage you take from falling has been lowered, and you won’t find yourself getting stuck on the scenery right when it matters. Uniting all of these features is engine optimization, which should improve performance depending on the configuration of your computer, as well as ensure FPS stability.

wargaming-net-logoTake your tank to the sea, warship to the Jacuzzi, and shoot pool on the Moon

April Fool’s Day is generally celebrated by playing a good-natured practical joke, an amusing hoax, or, in Wargaming’s case, an entire parade of special in-game events created for its passionate community.

In “Moon Mayhem” (April 1 – 5) World of Tanks PC establishes its first colony on the Moon. Why? Because why not? In this event, you command the latest weapon in spherical tank technology: the IS 8-BALL. In your space-age vehicle, you must knock other commanders on the “Crater” map into one of several billiard-type holes.

Of course, we’re on the Moon, which means less gravity. You’ll find that IS 8-BALL feels a little different than a regular tank. That’s because it’s so smooth. With less friction, various in-game hazards, like Meteor Showers and strange gravitational anomalies, this mode offers an out of this world experience. To play, all you have to do is enter your Garage, choose the IS 8-Ball and click the Battle! button. You will be added to a special queue with other players who have also selected the event vehicle.

April Fool’s Day in World of Warships (March 31—April 11) exchanges the high seas for hot tubs in the special “Ruinberg In Jacuzzi” map. Take charge of the captain’s boat from the animated series “Bad Advice” and battle other players in a not-so-relaxing hot tub. All you have to do is start the game and search your Port for the 4 types of vessels available: the Pokeboat (JP), Botishkaff (RU), Das Boot (DE) and Bottlesheep (US). Choose whichever ship you take a fancy to, then click the Battle! button.

Each ship sports a Fish captain at the helm, stylized with the nation of its ship. When the little boat is bobbing in your port, a 3D model of “Bad Captain” will be visible on the ship. While the captain lacks a bikini, you can hear some of his trademark sounds from the show. Why not stick your toe in the water?

We have something for everyone this April Fools’ Day, so make sure you don’t miss out!

Upgraded physics and improved sound making tank warfare even more visceral, taking the player experience up a notch

Wargaming is excited to announce today the release of update 9.14 for World of Tanks. This update introduces improved sound and physics, making tank warfare even more visceral, as well as 24 pristine HD models, and a new map for Rampage mode: Ravaged Capital.

Improved physics lets players immerse themselves further into dynamic battles, with vehicles handling more realistically than before. Commanders can master skillfully sharp turns, rapidly changing direction and controlling their tank’s turning radius during movement. In addition, vehicles are now more maneuverable, letting players take full advantage of agile tanks in their arsenal.

Update 9.14 also introduces significantly improved sound. In harnessing the new sound engine, Audiokinetic Wwise, commanders can hear every purr and roar of their steel beast as it roams the battlefield. With sound being processed on a separate core, there are between 10 and 30 distinct sound sources, recorded from authentic vehicles on real proving grounds. When adding enhanced sound effects to orientate players in battle into the mix, as well as original event sounds, and multiple sound presets, World of Tanks adds another layer of authenticity to the gameplay experience.

“The major improvements to sound and physics in update 9.14 have been highly-anticipated by our fans,” said Sergey Laptenok, Publishing Product Director, World of Tanks. “All this was made possible with feedback from players, and we have delivered an experience that brings them closer to the action than ever before.”

Commanders can also look forward to 24 HD models of some of their favorite vehicles. Those who have been battling in the intense Rampage mode can also learn to dominate the new map, Ravaged Capital, which drops players in the heart of Paris’s warzone during World War II.

Also joining the fight is the Tier 7 Konštrukta T-34/100, an upgraded version of the Soviet T-34 with an improved armament that will be very familiar to experienced players.
