MechWarrior 4
by Raul “Datajack” RodriguezCSIM: How does the environment a Mech is in effect game play (if at all)? Will elements such as water, rain, and snow effect Mech performance?
Mike: Environments play a big role in MechWarrior 4: Vengeance. We've mad a huge effort to make the worlds living and populated to give the player the feeling they are struggling to reclaim a vibrant and living world. Gone are the days of fighting either in desolate deserts or arctic tundra.
We now have living swamps, cities crowded with fleeing pedestrians and vehicles, colossal mountainscapes with forests and underbrush -- 15 unique maps in all. And to make these environments so realistic we're populating each with over 30,000 3D objects, a variety of ambient sounds and unique building and plant models.
The introduction of these objects will introduce a whole new tactical dimension to the game, as you use buildings for cover, play cat and mouse in a fog shrouded bayou, or shoot down power lines in a deserted suburb to cloud enemy radar.
Weather will also be included in the game, and will play a key role in power management. If you're conducting a mission in a frigid high altitude mountainscape or conducting covert ops in a water rich swamp in the middle of a lightning storm, your power management strategy will be very different than if you're orchestrating a daytime raid on an enemy base in the middle of a sun-baked salt-flats.
CSIM: When is the target release date for MW4? Will a playable demo be available before the release?
Mike: We will be out in time for the Holidays, and are exploring the Demo option.
