tom-clancys-the-divisionThe Division Free Weekend and Free DLC Week Offers Starting This Week

Today, Ubisoft announced that “Resistance,” Update 1.8 for Tom Clancy’s The Division will launch simultaneously on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Windows PC platforms tomorrow, December 5th. Coinciding with the release of Resistance, The Division Free Weekend is coming to all platforms from December 7th to December 10th. Additionally, all The Division owners will have free access to all of the expansions included in The Division’s Season Pass (Underground, Survival, and Last Stand) from December 5th to December 10th.

Resistance,” Update 1.8 is the largest free update thus far for Tom Clancy’s The Division and expands the game map with a new area accessible to all players: West Side Pier. In addition to the variety of open world activities available across the whole map, West Side Pier will be home to two new game modes:

  • Resistance (PvE mode) – In Resistance, the different factions are teaming up for the first time to fight against Division agents. Varied enemy NPCs continuously spawn in waves as up to four agents try to survive for as long as they can. Enemies drop resources that can be used to either set up defenses or extend the battlefield, offering more tactical options to the players. Players need to cooperate and find the best strategy to complete as many waves as possible and get greater rewards.
  • Skirmish (PvP mode) – In Skirmish, two teams of four players compete against each other to get the highest number of kills before the time expires. Teams earn points each time a downed enemy player is eliminated.

Additionally, “Resistance,” Update 1.8 will include a new social hub, improvements to the Underground DLC, a revamp of the rogue mechanics, as well as an optimisation of the gear system letting players improve the stats of their favourite equipment.

To celebrate the release of the 1.8 “Resistance” update, Tom Clancy’s The Division will offer a free DLC week as well as a free weekend:

Free DLC Week
From December 5th – 10th, all The Division players will get free, unlimited access to all three expansions included in Tom Clancy’s The Division’s Season Pass offer, including Underground, Survival and Last Stand. This free period will be available across all available platforms and accessible to free weekend players.

Free Weekend
From December 7th – 10th, the full game will be accessible to new players on all available platforms. The current free trial offer, which gives players full access to the main game until they reach level 8 or complete six hours of playtime, will be on hiatus during the free weekend but reinstated once the free weekend promotion ends. Players who have downloaded the free trial before December 7th will see trial restrictions lifted until the end of the free weekend.

historical-article-last-train-homeAfter World War II, fallen American service personnel rode the rails to their resting places

By James I. Murrie and Naomi Jeffery Petersen @ American History Magazine

ON THE CALENDAR, World War II ended with Japan’s surrender on September 2, 1945. For millions of American military personnel who made it through the hostilities, the duration dragged on into 1946. However, for the families of more than 279,000 Americans who died overseas, the war continued until loved ones reached their final resting places. Often this was through a U.S. Army program repatriating deceased servicemen and women aboard mortuary trains that in their day were front-page news but now are forgotten.

order-of-battle-panzerkriegBy Ian Boudreau @ The Wargamer

This year, Order of Battle has traveled to two rarely-if-ever seen theaters of World War II combat: Kriegsmarine focused on German naval engagements and several alternative history scenarios, while Burma Road took us to the Malaysian jungles of the Pacific war. Now, with Panzerkrieg, the series is heading back to more familiar territory: the ill-fated German invasion of the Soviet Union.

Gaijin Entertainment announced today that the next content update to its vehicular combat MMO War Thunder will introduce French Ground Forces. Following the addition of the French Air Force early in November with Update 1.73 “Vive la France”, the French Army will enter the battlefields of War Thunder with dozens of armoured vehicles available from rank I to rank VI. New technology peculiar to French tanks, such as oscillating turrets and drum-fed autoloaders, will open new tactical opportunities to players.

On the early ranks, French tanks are generally well-armoured, which will provide good protection for the small crew of only three men. Most outstanding here are the heavy tanks, the Char B1bis and Char B1ter, which are not only exceptionally well protected, but also offer a large crew and powerful armament. Their low speed and maneuverability however leaves them vulnerable whenever rapid movement is required, e.g. to position correctly against the most powerful cannons or evade airborne attacks. To avoid rockets and bombs, players of the early French heavy tanks will have to pay close attention not only to the battlefield itself, but also to the situation above it.

Starting with the medium ranks, several French tanks are equipped with automatic loading devices. These autoloaders allow for a number of shots to be taken in quick succession, followed by a very long reload time. This allows players on more modern French vehicles equipped with this technology to push fast aggressive armored assaults against the enemy.

Post-war vehicles of the French nation feature yet another characteristic new to War Thunder – oscillating turrets. These turrets are divided into two sections, with the upper responsible for cannon elevation and the lower for turret traverse. This ingenious engineering solution significantly reduced the size of the turret, making it a much more difficult target.

The first two tanks in War Thunder that combine both of these new technologies are the AMX-13 SS.11 and the M4A1 FL10, with the latter being a modification of the American Sherman tank. The turrets of both vehicles are equipped with an autoloaded 75mm cannon featuring two six-round drum magazines, allowing each to take a series of 12 shots in quick succession. Due to the long time required to change the two drums, finding a safe place after an attack is important. However the AMX-13 S.11 is also equipped with four guided anti-tank missiles, so even being spotted during reload does not necessarily mean game over.

For more information about these vehicles and other upcoming French tanks, follow the War Thunder Developer Diaries page.

Corsair ML (Magnetic Levitation) Pro fans are considered some of the best case fans on the market by enthusiasts, with Corsair touting them as being the fans NASA would develop for PC. While the Corsair ML series of fans have been available with single-color LED options for some time, it was only natural that Corsair would take their best fans and add programmable RGB lighting, allowing them to now fit into the Corsair LINK ecosystem. Now, PC enthusiasts who have been waiting for Corsair to bring RGB lighting to their ML Pro fans can fork over their money for some low-noise, high airflow RGB goodness.
