The key component here is voice command for choice of shells and targetting and wingman commands. Like my previous experiments with Hidden and Dangerous, once you have tried it, you could never go back. If you are a tank fan and haven't yet tried the latest version of Panzer Commander, that too is a worthwhile experience!
Finally, gaming chairs have multiplied like rabbits recently. In addition to a new price reduced version of the Intensor, watch for coming reviews on the Interactive Battlechair and the brand new GAMEseat. Intensor themselves are at work on a force feedback cushion, the budget means to increase your sensory experience. |
The Hardware A note on the hardware used for testing purposes here. We recently built an AMD K6-3 gaming system and have begun benching the latest generation of video boards as well as other recent hardware releases. To my delight, benchmarks for Falcon 4 on this system weigh in equal to a PII 400. As for the rest of the components, watch for a review soon on Promise Technologies Ultra 66 adapter board, which allows you to take advantage of the new ATA 66 standard for UDMA drives. Kenwood makes the Hi-Val TrueX line of CD ROM drives. We reviewed their 52X true speed CD ROM two months ago, a drive which maintains a consistent transfer rate across the entire platter. We are in the throes of a gaming revolution. I can barely imagine how good it will be to use voice command in the coming sims and the first person shooters. The Mech games also seem like a natural, and we'll have a report for you soon on Battlezone II and Heavy Gear II. Finally, if the UR Gear helmet works as advertised it will be a great addition to gaming hardware this fall. Join a discussion forum on this article by clicking HERE.
