Turtle Beach Montego II Quadzilla

SUMMARY I ran all the games I could think of on the Montego II without a hitch, as well as my favorite music CDs. Using the Soundworks FPS 2000 Digital, if there were flaws in the sound production, I would have found them! The Montego II performed as an equal to the SB Live in all cases, with my slight preference for sound positioning going to the Quadzilla. The Montego II Quadzilla has the superior game port. The SB Live doesn't cut it in this department. If you are using a USB controller, you won't care about this point. The MX300 is the same hardware, but lacks the the stereo digital audio S/PDIF output. It's tough to believe how much things have improved in the sound hardware over the past two years. The hardware is getting SO good that the software developers are no longer keeping up. |
Excellent sound reproduction, an accelerated game port, S/PDIF output and four channel surround sound, all for $100 US: what more could you ask for? We award the Montego II our Top Pick. Turtle Beach has always made top notch sound products, and the Quadzilla is another excellent entry in the pack. As this review was completed Aureal released beta 2.20 of their reference drivers.
