Earlier I mentioned that the volume/fader (front rear) control is on a remote. This is a great touch and unexpected, almost unnecessary since if you are playing a music CD you can use the on screen volume control with your CD player.
It is very handy in games, however, since it gives you quick access should the phone ring or your wife call when you are in the middle of a riotous excursion in Fighter Squadron, Falcon 4, Panzer Commander, Rainbox Six and the like. Falcon 4.0 The remote allows both volume and fader (front/rear channel) control and is on a six foot cable with a flat surface that allows you to mount it with sticky paper to anything you like. It even has a green power LED so you know the power is on. |
SUMMARY and Recommendations It's tough to talk about the FPS2000 in isolation, since the system is fully digital only with the SB Live and Digital I/O. So I'll address my recommendations as a package. The only drawback to this system as a fully digital system is that you are then required to also obtain the Soundblaster Live with Digital I/O. For some this will be a real plus, for others, who play only games and don't use their system for music, it will be a moot point and you may rather settle for the Montego II Quadzilla and bank some bucks. The FPS 2000 will sound great on any good sound board. If you already have a good sound board but it's from the last generation, like the Diamond MX 200 or the original Montego or similar, maybe it's time to consider an upgrade. But even with the last generation of sound boards, the FPS2000 will bring your sound to life. If you already possess the SB Live and need an excellent multimedia sound system, this is a no brainer. What are you waiting for? Add the Digital I/O and pick up the FPS 2000. For overall excellence, we award the FPS 2000 Digital our Top Pick. Join a discussion forum on this article by clicking HERE.
