FALCON 4.0: Operation "TIGERSPIRIT"
By Dr. Stefan "Bluefire" Linke, Tom "Tiger" Moelter, CAG of the 1st G.U.N.S. "Richthofen" and Jeff "Rhino" Babineau, C/O of the 209th "Deltahawks"

The second strike

The second strike we developed was very similar, targeting at Onch`on Airbase. This time it was the B-52's rolling in. And if there is one synonym for the B-52 in Falcon at the Deltahawks, it's personified by 2 great pilots: Bigfoot and Tango. Have you ever tried to make a fully equipped B-52 launch from Kwangju Airbase? No? So you should! This is pure action and demands much skill. Well what should I say, they made it!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...and the colossus got airborne.

Unfortunately the big trouble began a few miles prior to IP. I had much to do to protect the bombers from being hacked into pieces whilst more and more Mig-29 and SU-27 entered our flight zone from north. Luckily, Rhino himself flew the cover and downed at least 7 Bandits before he got sandwiched. I couldn´t help him at that point any more, he was out of slammers and the rest of the escort was engaged in bitter dogfights everywhere around the target area. A small impression of these dramatic moments can be heard by visiting the Delta Hawks web site (click the LAN & Other Comms link). Finally, with the target area utterly cleared, I gave the final "MOVE IN" command to the bombers. Well they DID move in---smashing the hell out of Och´on Airbase. Unfortunately Yoda got shot down in his B-52 and we lost another B-52 but Bigfoot and Tango made it! "Bombs away" came through the AWACS channel and this was the sound Magic wanted to hear!

Yet as you may imagine even after dropping all bombs the B-52 is a giant slowly-acting, iron, sitting duck. Both bomberpilots lived this experience when I gave them their escape vector. They caught multiple cannon hits but managed to do some "deep dive nose cold" maneuvers and---people don't ask me how---they made it out. With multiple hits in their hulls, I directed them back to the alternate.

Have you ever tried to land a B-52 without HUD and avionics on an alternate? No? You should! It's much fun, especially for those who watch you sweating your butt off. Finally, they got down, Tango within a giant smoke cloud, but down in one piece! Hurray!!!, here was a real celebration when both climbed out of their cockpits and headed for the beer station. We all were glad to see them back "alive". After some beer we made the debriefing. (People in case you ever visit the Deltahawks, you must try their beer, for they have Steve "Godwerb" Altimare within their group delivering the fine taste at nearly anytime.)

Further strikes were executed the next days, and perhaps I will give some description in another article. We will see. Anyhow, our attempt was to show how much life there actually is going on in the Falcon community.

And so we are glad to have squadrons like the 209th and the 440th to fly with us the Falcon 4.0, this most thrilling air combat simulator. I hope and pray that this will go on for some more years and wish some Micropose people to read this and think about the whole project!

Actually we are planning in cooperation with both squadrons a very special kind of "Cooperative Campaign Flight". It's an interesting experiment that will start in a few weeks. Every involved squadron will have its own airfield, number of pilots and packages in the campaign. There will be 1 headquarter to give the ROEs and coordinate the whole. So, I am pretty sure there is much fun still to come, thanks to all of you who develop the Falcon 4.0 further and further.

GO ON WITH THIS GOOD WORK PEOPLE!!!
