A Visit to Saitek
by Kurt Giesselman

The highly successful GM-2 (reviewed by Garra "GMan" Cornish for COMBATSIM) has given birth to the GM-1 (the gaming mouse without the gaming pad) and the GP-1 (the game pad without the mouse). Both are USB and controlled via SGE. We plan an updated review of the GM/GP system.

On to R&D. While in this area, I asked about a joystick sitting on a desk that looked like a Cyborg Digital II but had an over-size base. Ali said it was still in testing and not ready for review or discussion. I casually grabbed the stick during an idle moment and found that it was anything but a stock Cyborg. I can not say more except to comment that the feel of the stick leads me to believe that it has some big honkin' motors in it.

My visit ended with a meeting with the managing director. I heard some of the background on Saitek. He told me some of their ideas for future products (I am sworn to secrecy but some great concepts are under development). I made my usual pitch for a set of USB rudder pedals that would work with any SGE compatible HOTAS. I finished the meeting with the impression that Saitek was trying very hard to listen to their customers. The feedback provided from their customers is heard and discussed regularly.
