Budget System Comparison

We ran two types of industry-standard benchmarks: 3D Mark 2000 v1.1 Video benchmarks and SYSmark 2000 CPU benchmarks. We started with clean installs and defragged the drives on both machines just to be sure that the machines were on equal footing.
The main unit.
Round 1: SYSmark 2000 CPU testsSYSmark 2000, from the MadOnion.com folks, tests a system's ability to run today's leading-edge software for Internet content creation and office productivity. Basically, it loads a succession of heavy-duty apps and runs each app through an extensive, pre-scripted macro. While the system runs through the macro, SYSmark is in the background measuring the CPU's performance. At the end of this series of apps and macros, SYSmark 2000 generates a score. The score your machine gets is compared to original control system benchmark which in this case was the following:
- Motherboard: Based on the Intel® 440BX motherboard
- CPU: Intel® Pentium® III processor
- Core Frequency: 450 MHz
- Memory: 128MB DIMM
- Video/Resolution: Diamond Viper V770 Ultra, 32 MB, 1024x768 16 bpp.
- Disk: IBM* DJNA 371800
- Operating System Windows* 98 Second Edition
This calibration platform is given a rating of 100. So, if your system scores 200 SYSmark points, then it is twice as fast as the calibration system.
Our Results (3 iterations):

Interpretation: What the above table means is that over 3 repetitions (iterations) of the same tests, the Monsoon (AMD Duron) system was 1.33 times faster than the control system described above. The Tsunami (Celeron) was only 1.04 times as fast; or, for all intents and purposes, the same speed.
