SEAMLESS HOOK UP THOUGHPage 2
Star Trek: conQuest
by Jim "Twitch" Tittle
Of course time is needed to get into conQuest. The on-screen tutorial is a bit tedious for me but it is complete and will familiarize you with basic moves. The mouse is the controller of the action. The handsome screen graphics emulate Federation touch control consoles found aboard starships on the T.V. program. Hook up to the conQuest web site is very fast and smooth. I found no problems at all. I must emphasize the fact that we are talking slow graphic actions unlike dogfighting online with a Spitfire vs. a Messerschmitt.GET OUT THE MASTER CARD
Once the quick connection is made to the conQuest site you can see pertinent news and updates posted. A visit to the chat room will hopefully find an opponent to either massacre you or give you some hints on how to improve. You can play against the computer and eventually you will beat it.
Herein lies the difference to other sim/game web sites. You literally purchase items for use in the game with your credit card. This may or may not dissuade you. No, you do not have to, but if you are half way serious about playing with the investment of the boxed game CD, you will see that having more "stuff" is an advantage.
There are over 200 obtainable items ranging from ships, persons, events, weapons and equipment. Ships have varying shield strengths and weapons. With certain people on board, they may have advantages over more powerful ships. Hmm, fine. But when it gets down to a persona having the power of diplomatic immunity and you need to be aware of an items "influence," it's well beyond the COMBATSIM definition of combat simulation or strategy games.
As a side note, I'd actually like to see this feature with future flight and combat sims---Buy extras for online or offline use while online.
