Typhoon
By Geert "Warrior" VervoortGreyish skies and a dull green landscape with low visibility, different cloud layers, stretched valleys, high mountains, lots of sea, all that Iceland has to offer. I really liked the atmosphere of Scandinavia in EF2000. Typhoon shouldn't be too different from that.
Resolutions run up to 1024x768. I'm sorry to say that Whiteford was unable to give me information on which hardware features will be supported. Anything DirectX 7 supports should be supported in Typhoon. Environmental Bump mapping is not supported.
Aside from more control over Wingmen, you will also have more control over other flights in your package; something much requested as AI pilots in TAW tended to mess things up to such a degree that sometimes the mission was lost because of their renegade attitudes. (e.g., asking your escort to engage two Su27's in front of you only to see them run out somewhere to your 9 o-clock to engage four Su25's 200 miles out!)
A lot of detailed attention has been spent on which weapons you will carry; most are of European design. I don't have any names on these weapons as it's still not definite which weapons will and which weapons will not be included. I can assure you, however, that the 27 mm Mauser cannon will be modeled. The rumours that the real Typhoon will not have one are wrong. NO AMRAAMs. NO Sidewinders. NO Harpoons. NO Mavericks. So get ready for some advanced European firepower under your wings.
As for sound, not much can be said, as I haven't heard any yet. Some sounds are taken from the real Eurofighter, some have been altered to sound better, and some are purely made up. What this will sound like only your own ears can judge. Typhoon's music will be orchestral and, like in TAW, adaptive to what's going on. A sound expert has professionally composed the in-game music.
Typhoon's campaign will be FULLY dynamic; including resource management, the ground-war will be fully dynamic. One thing that really pleased me was to hear that there would be NO plane respawning. Once you shoot down a bandit, he stays down. Damaged planes can be repaired, however, as can any other item you destroy.
