Falcon 4 Plus
By Bob "Groucho" Marks
So which One?
As Devo once sang, Use your Freedom of Choice. One of the real beauties of the RP2.1 era of Falcon is how incredibly scalable it is. For those running F4 through a VoodooX card under glide, which cockpit is compatible with F4Turbo v2 does not matter.
Indeed, the jury is still out on whether F4Turbo does anything to Voodoo cards. By the same token, some pits look different under different 3D acceleration types. So try ‘em all! I keep each one of these cockpits in my C:\MicroProse\Falcon4\art directory, adding an identifier after the “ckptart” folder on the ones that I wish to disable- something like “ckptartXIS”.
When I want to fire up a particular ‘pit I simply remove that identifier and fire F4 back up. Until someone develops a cockpit switching utility similar to F4Patch, this seems like the best way to go.
OK, enough on cockpits. Next time we will look into the Fly Any Plane patch in RP2- is it a serious thing, or an amusing sideshow? Stand by for words.
