TacOps 4 Demo Released
Battlefront has announced that they have released a 4 scenario demo for TacOps 4 today. TacOps 4 is the commercial version of TacOpsCav 4, an officially issued standard training device of the US Army. It is a simulation of contemporary and near-future tactical, ground, combat between United States (Army and Marine), Canadian, New Zealand/Australian and German forces versus various opposing forces (OPFOR), simulating the Former Soviet Union, China, North Korea etc. Various civilian units and paramilitary forces are also included. Battlefield 1942 Update
Electronic Arts has announced that their highly anticipated World War II team-based action game, Battlefield 1942, will reach U.S. retailers this weekend, September 14, 2002. For more information on Battlefield 1942, check out our preview coverage of the game.
New Screens: LOMAC
We have 4 new screens from Ubi Soft's jet simulation, Lock On: Modern Air Ccombat. The screens feature updated work-in-progress shots of the new MiG-29 cockpit, note the opening canopy.
Raven Shield Demo Update
Last week we told you that Ubi Soft had announced that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield has been delayed until February 2003. We have now learned that the multiplayer demo for Raven Shield will be released in mid-November. The demo has been pushed back to allow the development team time to incorporate some of the enhancements that are being added to the final game.
According to the official Raven Shield website, "The game is looking really good and the latest tweaks and additions will ensure that Rainbow Six 3 lives up to the high expectations of the Rainbow Six fans and is deserving of the Clancy name. We'll be setting up some really cool online events once the demo is available and you will be able to win great prizes while getting your Rainbow Six fix"
Intel to Unveil New Chip Designs
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Intel Corp. INTC.O kicks off a conference for hardware and software engineers on Monday in Silicon Valley at a twice-yearly gathering hosted by the world's largest chipmaker to spur technology using its microprocessors. Intel is expected to release more details on the first processor for laptop computers it has designed from scratch, code-named Banias, unveil faster Pentium 4 chips and demonstrate the next version of its Itanium processor designed for heavy-duty computing, analysts said. American Conquest features, real-time battles with up to 16,000 units, era between 1492 and 1813, 4 campaigns with 30 missions: the American War of Independence, the Seven Years' War, the War of Tecumesh and Pizarro's Expedition, 6 simulations of historical battles and 12 separate single player missions with 12 different nations: Spanish, English, France, Aztec, Incan, Mayan, Sioux, Huron, Delaware (Algonquin), Iroquois League, Pueblo, American. X-47A Pegasus Completes Second Taxi Test
Northrop Grumman Corporation's Integrated Systems sector has achieved another milestone in preparation for the first flight of its X-47A Pegasus experimental unmanned air vehicle (UAV) with the successful completion of the vehicle's second taxi test at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake, Calif.
Northrop Grumman designed and built the Pegasus unmanned system with its own funds to demonstrate aerodynamic qualities suitable for autonomous flight operations from an aircraft carrier as part of the company's naval unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV-N) program. Built mostly with composite materials, Pegasus measures 27.9 feet long with a nearly equal wingspan of 27.8 feet.
The second low-speed taxi test conducted Sept. 6, was designed to demonstrate more extensively integrated navigation and control. Steering performance also was further demonstrated as the vehicle turned onto a runway and moved down it in a zig-zag pattern.
The first taxi test in July exercised the initial capabilities of the X-47A's command and control, steering, brakes and navigation. Results from both tests will be analyzed as part of the preparation for first flight.
The results of the Pegasus flight demonstration program will be used in Northrop Grumman's UCAV-N work for the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the U.S. Navy. The goal of the joint DARPA/Navy UCAV-N project is to demonstrate the technical feasibility for an unmanned system to effectively and affordably conduct sea-based surveillance, strike and suppression of enemy air defenses missions within the emerging global command and control architecture.
