Bowing Out
Well, there you have it. My unscientific, very relative, touchy-feely presentation on the Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS 32MB. Is it worth $350? It is to me. With the first generation GeForce 256 DDR cards still going in the high $200 range, the price doesn't seem to be slipping as quickly as the technology is advancing. I wanted a faster, more capable card- and this card fits the bill. It was just a matter of figuring out the timing. That's the hell of it, you see.
The new Voodoo cards are due out, well, soon, and the 64MB version of the 3D Prophet II itself coming out next month some time - picking the exact moment to take the plunge is trickier than ever. Which 3D format will prevail- will the market belong 3dfx or nVIDIA? Dunno, but you can bet that the battle will be bloody. This is the way of it now days - the technology is advancing faster than you can spend your hard earned cash. Indeed, that is exactly what they are counting on. You only have yourself to blame.
