B-17 Bomber External View. Note the lighting effects on the left wing.
Some of the other things we liked were the modeling of the turrets in the bombers as well as the lighting effects. Regarding the lighting effects, you truly have to download AH and try it on your own machine, as the screen shots will never do this justice, however we've included one that demonstrates the sun's glare on the airframe surface. These lightings effects are very noticeable in the cockpit as well, with the gauges and dashboard being affected by the sun's glare.
Spitfire MK IX. Again, the sun glare is visible on the tip of the right wing.
The terrain is interesting, with patchwork farm fields as well as mountains and canyons. Being engaged in a rolling dogfight through these canyons is a very exhilarating sensation.
The most unique thing graphics wise in AH is the tracers. Two words: They rule! In no simulation have we ever seen tracers that are so visually pleasing. If you've ever watched some of the WW II gun camera footage available, you'll agree that HTC has got it bang on. The smoke trails from the tracers are a particularly nice touch, and you can obviously see the ballistic flight path of the rounds thanks to them. When your rounds strike home, there is a brief flash, and while the realism of this is a topic of some debate, there is no question that the flashes are nicely done and that they are virtually a requirement in order to tell if and where your shots are hitting.
