Multi-Function Displays
These next graphics have been screenshot at 640 X 480 resolution for this article. I can tell you, they just do not do the cockpit justice. It is really gorgeous. You can read the lettering on the MFD buttons!
There are keyboard shortcuts for literally everything concerning the MFDs. Nothing is remappable, however. There are displays for Air Radar, Ground, Radar, TADS (EOS), TSD, ASE (TWD), Weapon status, Systems status, Engines status, Flight status, and Mission status. Any one can be assigned to any MFD at any time. Many of these displays have adjustments for range, filtering, direction, and size (magnification). Even those virtual pilots familiar with helicopter sims will need a few days to sort all these out! There are ten different screens. Click on the thumbnails below to view them in detail.
I really enjoy complexity in avionics and instrumentation. EECH gave me all that I wanted in this area. I don't know anyone that has flown a Comanche or Hokum (or Apache or Hokum for that matter). I do not know how 'real' these cockpits are. They are immersive and involving for me. Several other important points to note. The glass cockpit feature (solid parts of the cockpit are translucent) do not work for the Apache or Havoc. Again, Razorworks had to make many decisions on what enhancements to tackle within the schedule they had set for completion. The decision was to not redo the Apache and Havoc cockpits. The cockpits are, therefore, scaled to the resolution you set for the game. A few of the resolutions do not scale well. Razorworks added a keyboard shortcut to change to 640 X 480 resolution instantly.
If you own EEAH then you know how gorgeous these cockpits are. Switch to 640 X 480 resolution when you jump into an Apache or Havoc on the fly to make the MFDs crisp and clear. The EEAH cockpit graphics remain, even at low resolution, one of the benchmarks for any sim released to date. There is also a feature not documented in the manual that toggles the HUD size in the Comanche and Hokum (Alt F1). You may find one size or the other is easier for you to use.
