SDOE Mission Making Tutorial - Part 2
by Scott Verge

Mission Editor Flaws and Things to Watch Out For
  • Planes specify fuel loadouts in gallons but the mission editor does it in pounds.
  • Using the mission editor it is difficult to specifiy an exact target co-ordinate. Would be better if we could tell a bomber group to bomb an exact spot on the ground.
  • You can’t use the scroll wheel on the mouse.
  • You can use the text editing method to do stuff that you can’t do in the editor. Why doesn’t the editor use these techniques?
  • You can’t always use the runway headings technique with every runway.
  • You can’t use certain special text characters in the briefs. If your having trouble with a mission running, make sure you don’t have any unconventional characters in the briefing.

Wrap-up
As you can see the mission editor in SDOE is really quite powerful, it's definitely not perfect but it can be used to make some very good stuff. All I can say is if you’re having troubles visit the forum and ask for help. Most of the time you will have an answer (or at least some pity) within hours, and sometimes people will try to fix the mission for you.

With the added power of text editing for better placement, the mission editor becomes one of the best features of SDOE when combined with the whole OpenPlane aspect of the game. I hope this tutorial will help you get the best out of it and enhance your enjoyment of the game. I tried to cover everything I could think of and find out from the community. If you know of anything else, no matter how small. Let me know and I’ll update it.
Thanks

Thanks to Parsoft/Inertia for making a game that was developed to let us tinkerers play with the insides of the game.

Thanks to the community for making this such a great game to play and being such a great bunch of guys to play it with.
